1995 Presidential Series Limousine

.

The charm of the Old South. The high-top limousine at White Haven, Paducah, Kentucky.

Featured here is a 1995 Superior Cadillac Fleetwood Sovereign Limousine (model 6HD44).  Obviously based on the 1995 Cadillac Fleetwood chassis (the V4U limousine builder's package from Cadillac), Superior Coach Company of Lima, Ohio lengthened the car by 44" and raised the roof by almost 6".  Restructuring the upper portion of the car for full commercial glass required a completely new all steel roof, door pillars, structural supports, and taller and bigger commercial glass windows and windshield.  Price of this top-of-the-line limousine was $60,725.  Fewer than 25 were produced.  Many refer to this type of limousine as a "high top" because of the imposing  63" height of the limousine as well as the 22'6"  length of the car.

Based on the date of manufacture, we know this car was built at Superior/S&S's Wayne Street manufacturing plant, prior to their move to Central Point Parkway a few weeks later.

Like the 1995 hearse, this car is #41, Sable black, but with a tuxedo grain black vinyl roof.  The interior is finished in #30 medium blue with sierra grain leather seating on all three bench seats.  An auxiliary climate system was incorporated into the trunk to facilitate the heating and cooling of such a large space with huge expanses of glass.  This limousine will seat nine passengers; three in each of the three leather bench seats.  Matching blue carpeted Cadillac-logo floor mats protect the original plush carpeting.  The usual Cadillac amenities are present in this car:  power steering, power brakes, 6-way adjustable power front seats, automatic door locks, keyless entry, power trunk pulldown, security system, tilt steering wheel, am/fm/cassette radio, cruise control, twilight sentinel for the headlights, reading lamps and passenger assist handles above all six doors, heated power sideview mirrors, lighted visor vanity mirrors, dual front air bags, rear window defogger, anti-lock brakes, power antenna, power windows, electronic climate control, electronic leveling control, auto-dimming mirrors and delay windshield wipers.  The car also has half-duplex radio communication equipment with dual co-phased antennas on the trunk.

Outside, the car is fitted with dual flagstaffs on the front fenders for the display of American or funeral flags, wig-wag headlights, corner strobes, backup light flashers, and other warning equipment.  Extra load Firestone tires and 15x7 "limo only" lace-designed aluminum alloy wheels support the weight of this mammoth vehicle.  The power plant is a Corvette engine, General Motors' famous 5.7L, 260 horsepower, 330 lbs-ft torque LT-1 V-8 engine.  While it may be screamingly powerful in the Corvette, it moves the big Cadillac easily, but without drama.

We purchased this car in May, 2007 from Erik Sivadge of Southwest Professional Vehicles of Merriam, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City.  It saw service previously at a funeral home in Dallas, Texas.

Similar to the Cadillac Presidential Series limousines used during the President William Jefferson Clinton administration, this car is almost identical in length and height to the Presidential Limousine.  Of course, this one doesn't have the massive armoring of a Presidential Car, however it does make a commanding presence in parades and car shows.  While displayed at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for photographs it was mistaken by several people for the Presidential Limousine, and while in Nashville displayed at the Magnolia Portico of Opryland, people thought for sure that the President was in town.
