The 1999 Cadillac Fleetwood Limited is an unusual car from many standpoints. Cadillac "outsourced" the construction of their Flagship sedan to Superior Coach Company (a division of Accubuilt) in Lima, Ohio. Superior took a normal 1999 Cadillac deVille, stretched it 12", and made a luxury cruiser worthy of royalty. From the Fleetwood Limited Brochure:
This particular car was purchased by the Embassy of India in Washington, DC from Capitol Cadillac and served the Indian Ambassador to the United States, Shri Naresh Chandra and his successor, Shri Lalit Mansingh. The Embassy of India Chancery is located on Massachusetts Avenue in two historic buildings. A very formal sedan in Dark Adriatic Blue with the full dark blue tuxedo vinyl top, this is exactly the type of sedan you'd expect to see an Ambassador or other government official in. In fact, in my several trips to Washington, DC and in visiting the Senate and House Office Buildings, the Capitol (pre 9/11) and White House, several of these sedans were seen around DC, and under the Capitol's carports. Moore Cadillac in nearby Vienna, Virginia, was the largest single outlet for the Fleetwood Limited sedans, produced only in 1998 and 1999. The Fleetwood Limited is powered by Cadillac's standard 4.6 litre, 275 horsepower Northstar V-8 engine coupled with front-wheel drive, anti-lock brakes, magnasteer and traction control. For a price that was substantial for an American-made luxury car ($52,000), you got all the amenities you'd expect in a formal luxury sedan, including the usual Cadillac luxuries of power windows, door locks, magnasteer power steering. anti-lock disk brakes, traction control, lengthened and strengthened chassis, full tuxedo grain vinyl top, rear seat reading lamp, cellular telephone installed in the center driver's armrest, nuance leather seating areas in dark blue, automatic dimming compass rear-view mirror, heated front seats, rear wheel well fender skirts, dual air bags, front side air bags, Zebrano wood interior trim, power rear view mirrors, power antenna, digital climate control, cruise control, adjustable tilt steering wheel, rear defroster, and other upgraded components. The Fleetwood Limited package added $6,630 to the price of a Cadillac deVille. I have further customized the car with extensive additional Zebrano wood trim on the dash and door panels, a 5-disc trunk mounted CD changer, custom Cadillac emblem floor mats, and chrome wheels with Michelin tires. To say that the 1999 Fleetwood Limited is rare
is an understatement. Exactly 467 were produced in 1999. "Midnight"
joined the SeeMyCars fleet on December 23, 2003,
and is Dennis' faithful daily driver. |
