Custom built in 2003-2004 by Wick Buildings
and Windler Development for Dennis & Peggy Goethe, the Coach
Haus encompasses 4,800 square feet of space in a 60' x 80'
building. The ceilings are 12' high to accommodate a 10'
garage door, so that the tallest of cars can be easily stored
away. The vehicles are stored in two rows with a center
aisle, to facilitate easily moving any car in or out without
having to move another car out of the way. The Coach Haus
is completely insulated and finished, heated and air
conditioned.
The large concrete floor
was poured in two sections, then finished with decorative stain
in a special design created by Don Dow for the Coach Haus.
The six-foot circular centerpiece of the floor is a compass
design, with large two-foot-square tiles designed in a diagonal
pattern. To say that the floor is the star of the show
would be an understatement!
A large office, laundry
room, storage room and full bathroom are located at the west end
of the building. All the comforts of home are in the
building including refrigerators, microwave, washer and dryer,
shower, telephone and internet connections, and an alarm system.
The large storage room is used to house a myriad of parts and
accessories which are necessary for such a collection of rare
cars. The office includes a library of both common and
un-common car books, including many that are now rare and out of
print.
I had always dreamed of
having a large church organ, and with the construction of the
Coach Haus, this dream has been realized. The Coach Haus
organ was purchased from a dealer near Washington, DC and stored
away for two years before the building was completed enough for
the organ to be installed. There is a large sound chamber
designed into the west wall of the building to house the huge
speaker system that is powered by the large organ console.
The console is on a matching oak platform, allowing the organ to
be moved out of the way when not used. More information
about the Rodgers organ
and its dramatic
setting is available
here.
Thanks and accolades go to
many people who made the Coach Haus a reality, including Wick
Buildings and the Wick Building Crew headed by Eric Fann of
Marshall, MO. Also Frank "Pancho" Windler of Windler
Development, who is not only a great guy but also a great
general contractor. Without him, this would never have
been possible. Scott Nelson of Nelson Contracting Company
took care of most of the finish carpentry, and Don Dow of
Midwest Decorative Concrete created the floor. Windler
Landscaping was responsible for making the outside of the
building look great with landscaping, and the City of Pacific is
gratefully acknowledged and thanked for their friendly
cooperation in allowing the building. St. Louis' Rodgers
Organ dealer installed the organ, created the sound system, and
voiced it perfectly to suit the room's acoustics. A special
thanks to Alan Bruns of Bruns Monument Company for making this
prime building lot available to us.
We've hosted several events
at the Coach Haus, and the facility is especially suited to
parties with plenty of parking nearby and a large serving and
dining area. Check out the happenings on the
Events
page.
